South Northamptonshire Youth Council has been running since 1998 and is made up of Year 11 and year 12 student representatives of the six schools in the South Northamptonshire district (Campion, Chenderit, Kingsbrook, Magdalene, Roade and Sponne).
The Youth Council was set up to represent the views of young people in the district and it has an annual budget which is used to further the interests of young people and the community. Views on a variety of issues are fed into South Northamptonshire Council so that when decisions are made, Councillors can take into account the thoughts of young people in the district. The Youth Council meets 6 or 8 times a year on both a formal and an informal basis.
Being a Youth Councillor can be a rewarding experience. Not only are you able to do things to help young people in the community but you can also make a positive contribution to changes in what is happening in your area. It also gives you an insight into how decisions that affect all of us are made.
